At the opening ceremony, Academician Zheng Nanning, President of our school, gave a welcome speech. He said that the basic research of nanofabrication is a very important part of the National Natural Science Foundation's major research project. Most of the funded projects are related to manufacturing, and manufacturing will always be accompanied by human beings on the earth. In a new manufacturing environment, nanofabrication is a cross-disciplinary field that will certainly advance the progress of major research projects.
Academician Yao Jiannian, deputy director of the Natural Science Foundation, delivered an opening speech and issued an expert appointment letter on behalf of the fund committee. He said: "This project is of great significance in terms of basic, cutting-edge, and discipline-driven, and will have a major impact." He also emphasized the cross-discipline of nano-manufacturing and the planning of project implementation. After the speech, he and the academic team leader of the research project, and the dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Lu Bingheng, jointly clicked on the "Basic Research on Nanofabrication" website. Subsequently, Academician Lu Bingheng summarized and reported on the application and funding projects in 2009 from the aspects of the 2009 plan outline, project application and review, research trends and issues, and project implementation methods.
The project's application focuses on five areas of nanoscale manufacturing, nanometer precision manufacturing, cross-scale manufacturing, nanometer precision and metrology, and new principles of nanofabrication equipment. A total of 233 applications from 86 units were received, of which 43 were key projects. 199 are training programs. After a series of reviews, a total of 6 items were listed as key projects (funding amount is 2 million to 3 million yuan), and 36 items are breeding projects (funding amount is 500,000-600,000 yuan). Among the six key projects, our school occupies two projects, namely the “Metric Tillage and Testing Theory Research in Nanofabrication†project under the responsibility of Vice President Jiang Zhuangqi and the “Electro-fine-force-driven†of Professor Ding Yucheng from the School of Mechanical Engineering.
