Recently, Sweden's Oxeon Corporation conducted a trial of Biotex Linen/Polypropylene from British Composites Evolution in order to develop a new series of environmentally friendly and sustainable lightweight ribbon woven fabrics.

Oxeon is a leading provider of ultra-lightweight, high performance composite tow unwinding fabrics. TeXtreme tow development reinforcement materials are generally based on carbon fiber as raw material, but the company continues to research and development, so that its light weight and other advantages are more widely used in the composite materials industry. Their goal is to use the new variant of TeXtreme to produce ultra-light composite parts.

Brendon Weager, general manager of Composites Evolution, said: “The ribbon we developed has good performance and sustainability. Compared to yarns or rovings, the use of flat ribbons can greatly reduce the curl of the woven fabric and make the fibers more flexible. Well-arranged to improve mechanical properties. The tensile modulus of a linen/polypropylene composite made from the new ribbon woven fabric is 40% higher than equivalent material made from yarn.”

Composites Evolution currently offers a range of flax base fabrics with widths ranging from 10 to 100mm, and the scope of recent production will also expand. This high-performance natural composite material is suitable for applications that require high performance, low weight, and low environmental impact, such as automotive parts and sporting goods.
